Back in 2007, I accidentally discovered this question mattered more than thousands of questions I have researched in my professional work as a national opinion poller and consultant on research used in developing the world's largest new products, as well as markets which the European Union aimed to redesign throungh the 1990s and 2000s. This later morphed into various publlications including the Adam Smith scholars journal of social busiens edited out of Glasgow University, as well as remembrance debriefings in Japan Embassies and other spaces where dad was most valued.Father's work was most valued in Japan as it became the first large economy to redouble its size in under a decade. It was there that he was awarded The Emperor's Orger of the Rising Sun with gold bars; although dad had done some scriptwriting for Prince Charles and others whose mother tongue was English, dad had mixed feeling about calling himself Commander of the British Empire since he felt two world wars had been caused by the need for the 2oth century to end colonistaion and reboot all the nations that had been left underdeveloped (or in conflict with each other) by the way that the mercantile era from 1500 had ruled the world.

NormanMacrae Resrarch finding: student journalists of Entreprenurial Revolution's women empowerent networking inspired by Bangladesh started with educators and youth looking for missing solutions. Muhammad Yunus who had studied economics as a Fulbright scholar at VanDerBilt (originally founded as America's Belt Road Uni) famously tore up the macroeconomic textbooks he was teaching at Chittagong Univerity in 1974. Outisde the classroom a  million people (mainly womn and choldren) were dying of famine. It was alreday clear by the 1970s that US macroeconomic curricula had zero answers to ending Asian village poverty so Dr Yunus took his students out of classroom to experientially learn in the villages.

It wasn't until 1983 that Yunus and his students had an interconnected curriculum of livelihood microfranchises, 16 decision cultural values and weekly accounting process of circles of 60 village mothers  operating their own farmers market

Actually Yunus' quest for what sustainbility solutions can teachers and village students co-create was preceded by Fazle Abed - a graduate of Adam Smith's University of Glasgow circa 1960. Back in 1972 Fazle Abed had decided he wanted to devote the rest of his life to the question- having experienced organisation of disaster relief (cyclonE killing half a million people 1970) first hand what solUions do vilagers need next if they are to move beyond disaster through poverty to sustaining rural development. Between 1972 and 1979 Fazle Abed lived in a rural region testing as many as 30 concept solutions. In his previous professional life Abed had been the national CEO of the Shell oil comoany so he was aware that China and others were advancing green revolutions with crop science and barefoot vilage doctors networks.  Bangladesh's culture of the time did not permit village mothers to leave their vilages so it was natural to test concept village development solutions with the vilages mothers and daughters. It became clear to fazle that some of these solutions could become income generating microfranchsies for the village mothers to learn provided market's value chains were trabsformed to value their extraordinary communal wherewithal; others involved pure learning that needed to be person to person networked. All of Banladesh's grassroots village womens networking had to be person to person as 20th c Bnagldesh vilages had no access to electricity grids and so no telecommuinications. BY 1979 BRac's staff and viloage mothers as studnets had discovered the missing solutions for sustaining their vilage development and it was Fazle Abed who first invented the models of bootom up aid neeeded to scale through 300000 villages. Our journalists found that it was abed , the enginner , the archiotect, that relentless built the bottom-up systems of Bangladesh vilage empowerents; it was yunus that became the greatest storyteller for the poor

Once our journalists understood that both BRAC and Grameen were  action learning networks  dicsovering  missing solutions of sustainability, it was natural to ask why had the western academia and aid never presented women empowerment in this way? There were many missed opportunitoes :

 

  • from 1997 microcreditsummit- why targeted at bankers? why only fundraising stories? why nearly 20 annual conferences gioested by high society's Hilary Clinton and Queen Sofa- did yunus never share his work in the form of a missing curriculum' 
  • from 2002 skoll world championships -skoll who made his billions as first ceo of ebay wanted to give back - he originally designed sponsored 4 hours of videos of yunus and fazle abed as cases of social entrepreneurs who scale, (strangel the origin of ashoka had been founded to celebrate aroung 99% non-scaleable good works) world championships emerged out of Oxford, but even as laureates included south africa's free university's Blecher family with their "missong" currocula and mandela extranet, and online learning sal khan, skoll has never taken up the missing curricula position even as his learning curve out of usa west coast could have criss crossesdwith jack ma's many times but didnt because skoll's story is unlike any other internet billionaire we have encountered)
  • back to a yunus lunchtime in paris in 2005: leading corporations in paris and HEC busiens school asked yunus if he would held design the world's first sustainability MBA celebrating bottom uop system designs however opposite to the big banking curiculum of MBA - while Yunus said yes he never partnered with HEC in a way that could help them establish the credibility of this as a certifiable curriculum - he uses academic partnerships to fund from indidually not to help their studnts connect
  • in 2009 i attended ashden awards chaired by prince charles citing yunus as a world leaders in innovating microsolar knowledge (for the whole story chat with neville williams or bob freling whose learnong curve on clean energy started back with Presisnt Carter- there I met the bbc broadcaster of oceans and polar explorer paul rose- he had lots of missing cuuricula cases he hoped yunus and frends would empower youth to link in
