my family has been debating some of these reasons in the economist -and elsewhere -since 1948- this goes back through 5 generations of my diaspora scottish family trees but is quickest to explain with
my fathers life as a teenager and twentysomehing- his dad was a british consul so my dad spent most of his holidays in embassy's
by chsance stalin's russia and the last red sea port jews used to escape from hitler- my father knew emotionally and intelligently
that peoples serving these two terrible men needed first to be defeated and then to be helped back to being a sustainable
nation
dad went on to serve his last days as a teenager in ww2 in raf bomber command navigating planed over modernday
myanmar/bangladesh; dad knew he and me would not have existed if it was not for the help of americans wh had twice saved
the old world from meltdown; at cambridge dad was in last class taught by keynes who had by this time concuded the only true
economist aimed to design a world so next girl born could thrive wherever that might be; at cambrdge dad met and married sir
kenneth kemps daughter- sir ken had spent 25 years in what was then called bombay mediating gandhi- sir ken's last job
was to write up the legalese for india's independence- when he did this in 1946 on a typewriter in london the assumption was
the whole of the subcontinent of india would be one united states of south asia; by the time of india's independence the uk
was completely bankrupt so when a bossy aga khan said there needed to be 2 pakistans and one india london ceded without a
leg to stand on..
2:34NOW PLAYING | quiz you tube ai sees these 2 videos as related to once in a generation - can you tell me chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk
why? |
yambassador
lesson 1 comes from dad being the only journalist at the birth of the eu in messina-
always know what the founders of an organisation had knowledge and no knowledge of- as dads video tries to make clear the
representives of the 4 biggest countries at the birth of the eu were good at:
disliking anyone associated with hitler
loving
each others country people
they had resonsibility for the country iron and coal industries so their idea was to make
the supply chains of these 2 sectors between frand anf germanny so interconnected that france and germany would never go to
war again.. this made sustable socio-economic sense- nothing the eu di after that lived up to this first stroke of genius-
if that sounds a harsh judgement move forward 20 years to 1976 when dad published entreprenurial revolution and his main translator
into italian was a young romano prodi later to lead the european union who i have met 4 times in beijing explaining to students
how the second biggest challege the eu dace uniting the germanies came at a time when this task destracted from every ither
responsibility- eveywere facing the med sea went wrong; everything to do with helping peoples in every other country of the
old ussr was neglected. when dad retired in 1989 he did three main thngs n the 1990s- he coninuedto lauch foreign language
version of the 2025 report that he and i had co-authored in 1984 on timelines to celebrate if tech was applied in time for
millennials to be the sdg generatin; he authored the biography of john von neumann; he helped me develp the leadership pratice
books of chartering uniqure organisational purpose which verified how different the founders views of large organisations
were from those who subsequently went on to master their adminstration
lesson 2
is simpler once you dare to think it through- big english speaking organisation be they corporate, gov or other praise exterts
instead of learners; if your company has a chiel learning officer instead of a chief knowledge expert the clo invites correspondece
from anyone with a question the questioner thinks is critical to the organisation's deepest purpose- typically 3 different
things may happen when the clo receives the question- he sees the answer is vita, doesnt know the complte answer is himself,
has the right to ask anyone including fellow board members to develop the answer, the shares this answer with everyone incluing
the original questioners; a second possibility is our clo knows the answer and is suprised the questioner does not know- this
becomes a training opportunity often one in which middle management needs as much training as the questioner; the third possibility
is the question seems to have little relevance- this is a different typpe of training oportunity- be careful it could be the
questioner is in the wring job or it could be something from outside the company of huge innovation importance is changing
and the questioner is the first messenger of this.

one note - going back to the foundations of post-industrial value chains may sound odd but unless
we do -all the training and data we force on artificial intelligence in the next few years will have information cancers that
the ai will put at exponential risk to all of us
